Difference Between Iron & Steel

Difference Between Iron & Steel:


1. Iron is an element. 
Steel is an alloy of iron. 
2. Iron was known to the humans from the beginning of civilization. However steel was discovered much later.
3. Steel can produced by altering the percentage of carbon added to molten iron and controlling the temperature which affects the atomic structure of the product, and hence its properties. 
4. Stainless steel is composed of iron, carbon and chromium.  
5. The iron that contains less than 2% of carbon is called steel whereas which contain more than 2% of carbon is known as pig iron.
6. Iron-  Iron (Fe) is an element found in nature in form of different ores (Oxide ores, sulphide ores etc.)
