9 Difference Between Stock Exchange And Index

1. An index is a basket of stocks that are bought and sold as a group. Stock exchange is a place where all the securities are listed. 2. Index is a reportable calculation based on prices for a collection of stocks. 3. The two major stock exchanges in the U.S. are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq stock exchange.  4. Every exchange has its indexes to represent the overall exchange and also different sectors’ movement. 5. A stock exchange is an organisation that is responsible for offering and clearing stock trades. 6. The stock exchanges can also be called secondary market. 7. Stock exchange- It is a platform where exchange of shares take place between buyers and sellers.
