9 Difference Between Wifi and Wimax

1. The range in WiFi is around several hundred feet. 2. the range for WiMAX is up to 40 miles. 3. Wi-Fi is based on IEEE 802.11 standard whereas WiMAX is based on IEEE 802.16. However, both are IEEE standards. 4. Wi-Fi typically provides local network access with the speed of up to 54 Mbps. 5. WiMAX antenna is with the speed of 70 Mbps or more. 6. Wi-Fi was officially launched in the year 1997 where as WiMAX came to the picture in the year 2004. 7. Wi-Fi networks have a channel bandwidth of 20MHz, whereas WiMAX networks have a flexible bandwidth option which ranges from 1.25MHz to 20MHz.
