Pros:
1. Easy setup and operation
2. No lock-in contract. After you buy a Chromecast 2 device – you only pay for what you watch (same as Apple TV and BigPond Movies).
3. Chromecast is controlled by your phone or tablet, rather than having a conventional remote control. And I would argue this is a far superior way to do things.
4. Still great value for money.
5. It s also one of the most compact and easiest to install.
6. Google Assistant support for Home users.
7. Group Device:
In case you’ve got company over and your friend insists on streaming a video not similar to yours, you can simply queue that up in the same playlist.
8. More Compatible: The Chromecast works with both Android and iOS devices.
9. Streams Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, HBO Now and thousands of other apps and games to your TV using an Android or Apple phone or tablet, or a PC, as the controller.
10. Added 5GHz Wi-Fi support
11. It takes one HDMI port, and you ll need to plug it in for power. You don t even need an extra HDMI cord because the device has it s own HDMI hookup.
12. Faster performance
13. Tab Cast:
The unique feature of beaming what’s on your tab in PC’s Google Chrome onto your TV is pretty tangible but it seems useful when viewing certain sites which support the channel’s own video player.
Cons:
1. No 4K streaming
2. The ‘no remote control’ thing can be annoying when you need to find something to watch, or change the volume – and your phone is in the other room charging.
3. Gaming is weak currently
4. It also uses more internet bandwidth because you have two devices streaming simultaneously.
5. Can’t stream Prime Videos.
6. Somewhat Late Inception:
Chromecast has been introduced when devices like Blue-ray players and many TVs had the option of streaming online content. So spending the money over Chromecast in case you already own a set up box is not so worth it.
7. There is no way to stream locally stored files on a phone or tablet (has to be a full Chrome browser).
8. Requires HDMI Chromecast can only use HDMI ports. Older TVs are out of luck.
9. Search could use a bit of work.
10. No local storage options: Xbox and Playstation have hard drives, Roku 3 has a microSD card slot.
11. Comparatively slow boot times for the apps.
12. Chromecast supports a small number of apps and channels compared to Roku or Apple TV.
13. Users say that mirroring large files or videos can be laggy or buggy (Google labels this feature as a beta).
